Caimito Couture spells Golda Marthe

leave a response

When you are all about accessories, you definitely hit the 2nd floor in Ayala, the bazaar in Robinsons or the units in Paseo. I was just as ecstatic as the saleslady who got her Buena Mano for the day when I went to Caimito Couture last week. It turns out it was Golda Marthe’s line of accessory decked out all over the place. The first time I was able to get a handful of her creations was the bazaar last year in Banilad Town Center where local entrepreneurs were given the entire parking lot to display their wares.

This Fil-Chinese who is born fourth in a family of eight lives for fashion and poured out all that style into this thriving business of hers.

When did you start the business? How was it conceptualized ?

I started Caimito Couture just this March of 2007 butI’ve actually been making fashion accessories as early as December of 2005. Its conceptualization was simple-it was borne out of my fascination with fashion and anything vintage. I love, love trinkets of any size and material. Back in college in LaSalle College International (in Manila), I was known as the Queen of fashion accessories as I would pile up bangles and bracelets in both arms. As for the look of the store, the concept was to make it look unique, home-y and worldly. I wanted it to have that shabby chic vibe that when people shop there, they’ll feel as if they were in a hip shop at a flea market in Biarritz or New York.

Who came up with the name and what is the story behind it?

The name Caimito Couture comes from the name of a group of hip and stylish girls called the Caimito Sisters - and this group of girls are my dearest and closest friends. I also thought of Caimito because it is a local fruit bursting with flavor… sort of whatCaimito Couture is all about :)

Do you have people helping you make the accessories?

Yes, I have one all-around assistant that helps me make the accessories.

What materials do you use?

I like to mix old and new, natural, and metal pieces. I love the look of the new batch of necklaces that I’m coming up with. I used chinese buttons and patches, vintage charms and some precious stones. It will look great on anything! I also love my cocktail rings made of vintage buttons!

What are their standard prices?

Necklaces- from P750-P395, Bracelets- P195-P350, Rings- P60- P85

Besides the Unit at Paseo, where else do you circulate/distribute?

I used to consign my stuff in some shops in Manila but for now, I’d like to focus on the Cebuano market.

Any plans in the future for marketing? Or distributing nationwide/abroad?

I would love to be able to export my creations. I would also love to sell my products online.

Golda’s store is at PASEO, F. Cabahug St. Mabolo, Cebu. The trinkets are quite affordable and the entire Gold Marthe sense of style all stamped into the necklaces and bracelets. Standard prices are from 700-60. I got a ring that was less 50% from its original price, thanks to her saleslady haha! CAIMITO COUTURE will be a household name, yeah? Looking forward to seeing more of her designs, soon.
